The Champions League produces quite the storylines every year that makes it just that much more enjoyable to keep up with. On matchday three, three different Mexican International’s found the back of the net in stunning fashion for their respective teams. Let’s take a quick look into how all three came to be.

Hirving “Chucky” Lozano (Forward) - PSV Eindhoven

In the 28th minute, Sanchez passed the ball backwards to find Alderweireld. Although, Chucky immediately went to challenge the defender for the ball and broke away with it. With Hugo Lloris scrambling into position and Alderweireld rushing to recover, Chucky was still able to find the back of the net with a shot over the goalkeeper. Simply beautiful. He has blistering pace, an incredible workrate and is goal scoring machine. It’ll be interesting to follow his development and what else he has left to show in this season’s UCL.

PSV are currently last place in Group C and it’s not likely at all they will end up in the top two spots over Barcelona and Inter Milan. Regardless, it’ll be exciting to see how the reigning Eredivisie champions finish off this group stage.

Hector Herrera (Midfielder) - FC Porto

Porto’s Mexican captain Herrera went virtually unmarked in the penalty box to finish off an accurate cross from fellow compatriot, Jesus Corona. Lokomotiv Moscow will have a very hard uphill battle to progress into the next stage of the UCL with bad defensive performances like this one. Nonetheless, a great finish from Herrara to put Porto up by 2 at the time of goal.

Unlike PSV, Porto are currently top of their group which isn’t all that surprising given the quality of the other teams. Group D consists of Schalke 04, Galatasaray and Lokomotiv Moscow. Whether they’ll be able to stay firmly in first place is still up for debate, since you can never count of any team in the UCL.

Jesus Corona (Forward) - FC Porto

Lastly, we have Corona that provided the assist to Herrera and also found his name on the scoresheet before the end of the match. Brahimi dribbled through the middle and provided a long pass in front of the defenders which Corona received thanks to his acceleration and capitalized on it. Corona pretty much secured the win for his side.

With only a handful of Mexicans playing in this season’s Champions League, it’s definitely a feel good situation seeing how big of an impact they had in match day 3. Hopefully this form by all three will continue and that the entertainment levels will only continue to rise.
