Khedira extends contract with Juventus until 2021

Juventus has announced a two year contract extension for Sami Khedira until 2021.

I know first hand that many Bianconeri fans aren’t happy with the fact that Khedira will remain in Turin for a few more seasons. Based on many different factors, it’s understandable. Although, unlike many others I don’t mind Khedira being at Juve.

What bothers me is that he’s one of the few players that gets consistent starting roles. Many have even suggested that he’s blackmailing Allegri for a starting role (All in good humor). Khedira is not good enough to be a starter at a top club like Juventus. At the moment, he simply doesn’t offer enough on the pitch to convince people otherwise. Keep in mind this is not exactly Khedira’s fault since Allegri is the one that ultimately decides who play’s or not.

When it comes to the hardest competitions in Europe like the UEFA Champions League, we absolutely need more quality than Khedira in midfield. Every single mistake big or small can come back to bite us. Where I feel Khedira is most useful is in domestic competitions. He performs well enough in Serie A which will be important to let other midfielders be rested for the UCL.

Everything regarding Khedira just seems so complicated. On one hand, as I mentioned earlier, I think he’s great to have for domestic competitions. On the other hand, it’s hard to see him start over the very promising Bentancur & Can. Game time is crucial for their personal growth and chemistry within the team. Khedira's sealing for growth is surely over with at 31 years of age.

At the end of the day, I’m going to put all my trust in Allegri’s decisions. There’s nothing else we can do but support our team. I believe Allegri has earned the right to call the shots with all the success he’s brought to Juve in the past few years. Even if we might disagree with certain situations like Khedira, I’m sure we’ll figure it out.

Lastly, to Khedira: prove us wrong this season!

Forza Juve!
